Joshua S. Blackburn is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, professional aviator, and aviation educator dedicated to developing safe, confident pilots. After serving his country in the United States Marine Corps, Joshua built a successful career spanning more than 30 years in automotive manufacturing leadership, retiring after decades of managing teams, developing people, and fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Following retirement, Joshua turned his lifelong passion for aviation into a full-time mission. With more than 2,300 hours of flight experience, he has earned numerous FAA pilot certificates, ratings, and instructor credentials. He holds an Instrument Rated Commercial Pilot, Certified Flight Instructor (CFI), Certified Flight Instructor–Instrument (CFII), and Multi-Engine Instructor (MEI) licenses, along with a Tailwheel Endorsement. His teaching philosophy emphasises sound aeronautical decision-making, proficiency, and a lifelong commitment to learning—helping each student become not just a certificated pilot, but a safe, confident, and capable aviator.
Joshua is passionate about investing in the next generation of pilots and believes aviation has the power to inspire confidence, discipline, and personal growth. Through Belmar Aviation, he strives to make flight training approachable, enjoyable, and held to the highest standards of safety and professionalism.
Away from the airport, Joshua has been married to his wife, Barbara, for more than 35 years. Together they have raised two children and are proud grandparents to four grandchildren. His faith, family, and love of aviation continue to guide both his personal life and his commitment to serving the aviation community.
